On MONDAY November 16th, 2009, the December 6th Organising Committee will be launching a 20-day campaign to end violence against women in Halifax. Cost is by donation. Proceeds will be donated to the Purple Ribbon Campaign. See the poster here. From the film's website: Based on the true events that occurred on December 6, 1989, at the Montreal's Polytechnique School, the movie tells us about that specific day through the eyes of two students, Valérie and Jean-Franéois, for whom their life has been changed forever, when a young man entered the school with one idea in mind : kill himself and take with him as many women as possible. The 20-day campaign is meant to allow people to reflect back on the massacre, but also focus more broadly on issues of violence against women and explore the possibilities to move society forward so that violence against women is no longer a reality for future generations of young girls. Please note: This film includes graphic content regarding violence against women. We acknowledge that some content might be triggering for people, especially those who have experienced violence. "Harmony Bazaar is all about women telling their stories through song and the encouragement of sharing common experiences. Violence against women is a reality in our society. Working with Avalon to create a space for people to reflect on the 20 years that have past since The Montreal Massacre, is truly humbling. This organization works to create the social and legislative changes necessary to end violence against women" explains Harmony Bazaar producer, Errin Wiliams-Spidle.
